TV Land has given a pilot order to a comedy based on the Web series “Teachers,” with “Community” trouper Alison Brie on board to exec produce.
Series revolves around six elementary school teachers who are dedicated to their students but don’t have it together in their personal lives. The Web series premiered in 2012.
The Chicago-based comedy group known as the Katydids — each of its femme members has a name that is a variation on Katie — star in the Web series and will reprise their roles for the TV Land adaptation, spearheaded by exec VP Keith Cox.
“From the second this project came across my desk, I’ve been in love with it,” said TV Land prexy Larry Jones. “The tone of the show is unlike anything we’ve had on TV Land.”
Caitlin Barlow, Katy Colloton, Cate Freedman, Kate Lambert, Katie O’Brien and Katie Thomas are set to star. Brie is exec producing with Matt Miller, who also produces the Web series, and Cap Gun TV, the Chi production entity behind the Web series.
